Haaland pushes Man City closer to Premier League title

Manchester City moved top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.

City manager Pep Guardiola named just one change from Saturday's win over Fulham an Kyle Walker came in for Nathan Ake, while Radu Dragusin, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were back for Spurs.

The host lined-up the first threat five minutes in when Brennan Johnson came out on the right and cutback for Bentancur to draw a miraculous save off goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.

Guardiola's men quickly turned up following the scare and a remarkable save from Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario denied a close-range volley by Phil Foden following a poor clearance.

Although, the clear-cut chances remained minimal – the action continued where Johnson came in on the blind-side to go past Josko Gvardiol and saw his angled shot parried by Ederson.

City's struggled to locate big man Erling Haaland, with the forward passes not accurate but there's was no shortage of openings as Bernardo Silva's curler was cleared from the goal-line by Dragusin.

It was an electrifying start to the second half as a stray pass allowed City's Kevin De Bruyne to shoot on-the-turn only for Vicario to pull across and denied him.

The reigning champions were ahead though after a run down the left from Foden led to a delivery to Silva to slip in De Bruyne who in-turn played a first-time cross for Haaland to tap in.

Guardiola made a double change midway in the second period, as Ederson picked up a knock and came off for Stefan Ortega while Jeremy Doku stepped replaced De Bruyne.

Ortega came good soon after entering when he stepped across the near post and prevented Dejan Kulusevski profiting from point-blank range.

The substitute keeper made himself big again five minutes from the end after charging off his area to deny Heung Min-Son from close-range as Manuel Akanji conceded possession high-up.

City were given a spot-kick in added time when Doku drew a foul from Pedro Porro – leaving Haaland to step up and guide Vicario the wrong way to make it 2-0.

The Citizens ran down the ten minutes of additional time and confirmed the win to go back to the top of the table, knowing a win on Sunday will clinch the title regardless of Arsenal's result against Everton.
