Arsenal sink Wolves to pull clear of Man City

Arsenal moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

In-form Kai Havertz surprisingly started on the bench, and Belgian Leandro Trossard took his place in the Gunners' sole change from the big triumph over RC Lens in midweek.

The change didn't matter at all as the host settled through a seventh minute lead with Bukayo Saka finding the bottom-corner after burst through a couple of challengers.

Wolves were picked apart again five minutes later when a one-touch move from Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko led to a cutback for Martin Odegaard to riffle past Jose Sa after stepping in.

Sa sadly couldn't remain on the field inside 23 minutes played as a suspected injury pull forced him to make way for substitute shot-stopper Dan Bentley.

The Gunners continued to up the tempo ahead of the break and threatened a third when Gabriel Martinelli pulled towards the far side to curl off the post.

Forward Jesus got a chance ahead of halftime from a combination of elements though with a chance to cutback to the area, the Brazilian decided to work Bentley.

Arsenal continued to have the lion share of chances earlier in the second half, as Jesus mistimed a swinging cross from Takehiro Tomiyasu with the goal in plain sight.

The boys of Gary O'Neil came alive and got their first sight of goal moments later where Matheus Cunha turned Declan Rice to produce solid near post save off David Raya.

Saka should've had a third with a follow-up effort from Odegaard's initial strike, but Bentley came up with a double save to deny both following the final exchanges.

Cunha made amends two minutes from time when he finished off a delivery from Nelson Semedo to set-up a nervy finale.

The Gunners didn't drop their heads and threatened a third through a clear opening by substitute Nketiah, but Bentley parried off the post as the host snatched the win to open a four-point lead atop the table.
