Riveiro's 'Al Ahly dream' realised

After finally being announced as Al Ahly's new head coach, Jose Riveiro is said to have shared his first words as the new manager of the Egyptian giants.

Riveiro's move to Al Ahly had been in the works for a short while, but the club delayed announcing the deal until they secured the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League title earlier this week.

On Thursday night, the announcement was made official, with the former Orlando Pirates coach signing a two-year contract in Cairo.

It was also confirmed that he will be joined by four members of his own technical team, while retaining the club’s existing general coach, Emad El Nahhas.

Egyptian media personality and former footballer Ahmed Shobier has since revealed what Riveiro said following his appointment.

According to Shobier, speaking on his show Al Ahly’s Goalkeeper, Riveiro said: "I’m at a European-level club; nothing is lacking here.

"This is what I’ve always dreamed of and wished for – to coach a team of Al Ahly’s calibre."

Shobier also shared his assessment of Riveiro’s arrival, stating: "The coach’s unveiling wasn’t a big event — it was more of a practical introduction, and that’s exactly what happened.

"He is getting to know everything. His first meeting was with Captain Mahmoud El Khatib, followed by a full orientation around the club and a detailed briefing with Mohamed Youssef, the club’s sporting director.

"He’s quite a serious coach, doesn’t overlook any detail, big or small. He’s passionate about the finer points, has many important ideas.

"It’s clear that he’s a capable coach, a promising project, and has a strong footballing vision. He must be supported."
