Wydad 'react' to Ronaldo links

Wydad Athletic Club have seemingly reacted to reports from Spain that the club has approached Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo with the intention of signing him for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

On Wednesday, Spanish publication Marca claimed that the Moroccan giants are contemplating the possibility of bringing the 40-year-old star to the team.

The report indicated that the Wydad, who have recently dismissed South African coach Rulani Mokwena, regard CR7 as a suitable addition to their roster ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Ronaldo is presently in the books of Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, where his contract will be expiring on June 30. His future on the team has come under scrutiny following what is seen as a bad season for him.

Hours after the news broke, a report from Morocco's publication Sabahagadir claimed that Wydad AC president Hicham Ait Menna had denied the news of signing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The report has emphasized that Wydad cited monetary issues, saying they will not be able to afford Ronaldo, who is said to be earning approximately €16.6M (R337 million) monthly.

The Red Castle will commence their Club World Cup journey against English Premier League giants Manchester City on 18 June before they face Juventus and Al Ain of the UAE respectively.
