Why Ahly have delayed Riveiro's announcement

With the former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro already in Egypt, the reason why the Spanish coach is yet to be announced as new Al Ahly manager has now reportedly been revealed.

Riveiro is expected to be confirmed as the Egyptian Premier League giants' new mentor after he has eportedly reached an agreement with Ahly to replace Swiss coach Marcel Koller.

Several reports have indicated that Riveiro has signed a two-year contract with an option to extend for one more year, given how he leads the team.

Riveiro's final game at Pirates was a Betway Premiership clash against Golden Arrows, where the Soweto giants claimed a 3-0 victory at the Orlando Stadium.

With Ahly yet to announce him, a report from an Egyptian publication Darelhilal.com claims that the club's management has decided to postpone the official announcement until after the team's final match of the season.

It is said that the 12-time CAF Champions League winners took the decision to let interim coach Emad El-Nahhas finish the campaign due to recent positive results which saw them top the championship playoffs table.

Ahly are two points ahead of second-placed Pyramids FC and a win or a draw against Pharco FC on Wednesday will see El-Nahhas' side crowned the Egyptian champions.

If indeed Riveiro will have to wait until the end of the season, it means he will start his Ahly tenure against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami CF at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup next month.
