Maema's next move close? 'Permits are done'

Neo Maema’s next move is reportedly close to being confirmed, with his new club said to have finalised all the necessary documents.

Mamelodi Sundowns announced Maema’s departure last week, thanking the midfielder for his four years of service at Chloorkop.

The news came while Maema was away at the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship in Uganda, where he was captaining South Africa’s home-based national team.

For several weeks, Maema has been tipped to join Simba SC.

The Tanzanian giants are now believed to be on the verge of announcing Maema’s arrival following Bafana Bafana’s elimination from CHAN 2024, according to Foot Africa.

Initially, it was reported that the unveiling was only expected after the tournament at the end of the month, but it could now happen sooner than anticipated.

Simba’s media spokesperson, Ahmed Ally, confirmed that Fadlu Davids’ side will soon announce the arrival of three new foreign players.

"Those we’ve already announced are not enough – there are still three more players we haven’t unveiled. This time we are not playing around,” said Ahmed, according to Soka la Bongo.

"Even those we haven’t officially introduced, their ITCs and permits are done – they are legally Simba players. We’re only waiting for the right time to present them."

Maema will reunite with his former Sundowns teammate Rushine De Reuck at Simba, making it three South Africans at the Tanzanian giants, including coach Davids.
