Zinnbauer on 'mouth-watering wages' in Algeria

Former Orlando Pirates boss Josef Zinnbauer is reportedly earning a lucrative salary in Algeria, making him one of the highest-paid managers on the continent.

In January 2025, Zinnbauer returned to North Africa as JS Kabylie's new head coach, following an unsuccessful stint in the Saudi Pro League.

The German tactician signed a deal running until June 2026 with the Algerian giants, marking his first role in Algeria following previous spells in Morocco and South Africa.

Since taking charge, Zinnbauer has won nine of his 15 matches, guiding JS Kabylie to a second-place finish in the Algerian Ligue 1 and securing qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.

Nevertheless, reports suggest that Zinnbauer does not come cheap, with claims that he is among the top earners in the country.

According to Algerian newspaper El Khabar, Zinnbauer earns 1.3 billion centimes per month at JS Kabylie, which equates to approximately R1.82 million.

The Algerian publication also reports that the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), along with the Professional Football League, is currently discussing potential changes to wage structures in the division.

The authorities are said to be concerned about the high expenditure on player and coach contracts, and are therefore looking to introduce measures aimed at cutting down on excessive deals.
