Ex-Downs star 'set for early exit' from Wydad

It has been claimed that Wydad Athletic Club are set to part ways with a former Mamelodi Sundowns star following the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Wydad are currently competing at the Club World Cup, although their group-stage elimination has already been confirmed after a recent 4-1 defeat to Juventus.

The club will play their final match of the tournament on Thursday this week before returning to Morocco for the off-season.

It is now being reported that Wydad have already begun planning their squad for next season, with several incomings and outgoings anticipated.

One of the players now said to be on his way out is Abdelmounaïm Boutouil, who only joined Wydad from Sundowns at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Boutouil signed a two-year deal upon joining the Botola Pro 1 side, with his contract set to expire in June 2026.

However, a report by AfricaFoot claims that the centre-back will not see out the remainder of his contract.

The publication states that a source revealed: "We are awaiting the end of our third Club World Cup match.

"Upon our return to Morocco, we will meet with Boutouil and his agent to agree on an amicable termination."
