Riveiro 'threatens' to freeze Ahly star out of CWC

Following Al Ahly 0-0 draw with Inter Miami, Jose Riveiro is reported to have warned one of his disgruntled stars of possible exclusion from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Ahly began their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Inter Miami in the opening match of the new Club World Cup.

The Egyptian giants had a good opportunity to win the game, but their new signing Mahmoud Trezeguet missed a first-half penalty.

It was later revealed that this infuriated Riveiro, as Trezeguet disobeyed instructions by taking the spot-kick, despite Wessam Abou Ali being the designated penalty-taker.

Trezeguet is said to have been fined EGP 500,000 (approximately R177,000) for his actions, with the fine reportedly standing even if he had successfully converted the penalty.

That is not the only issue to have rocked the Al Ahly dressing room, with a new report now claiming that Riveiro had some stern words with another player after the Inter Miami match.

According to Egyptian newspaper Al-Dustour, Riveiro has warned Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki that he will be excluded from the squad if he continues to display untoward behaviour.

Bencharki is said to have voiced his frustration over not being included in Riveiro’s starting XI for the game against Inter Miami.

The player reportedly showed visible signs of anger prior to the match, prompting Riveiro to refuse to bring him on as a substitute.

The report claims Riveiro is intent on enforcing discipline within the team, with Bencharki warned that any further display of discontent will be severely punished.
