Fadlu puts weight on Maema's shoulders

Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has revealed what he expects from South African star Neo Maema.

After four seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns, Maema confirmed his exit from Chloorkop last month.

Shortly after captaining South Africa's locally-based side at the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship, the midfielder completed a move to Simba, where he joined former Sundowns teammate Rushine De Reuck.

His playmaking ability and experience in CAF competitions were among the biggest factors in securing his signature.

Maema’s compatriot and manager, Davids, has now offered insight into how he plans to use the 29-year-old.

According to Soka la Bongo, Davids explained: "We’ve had a good preparation period, but the work isn’t finished yet.

"We have a few days left and there are things we still need to work on… we are not far from where we need to be.

"Both (Maema and Jean Charles Ahoua) are good players. What we need is more efficiency in all areas, so we will see if there is a possibility of playing them together.

"We will see how it goes as they get used to each other. I have confidence in their quality, but what we need is the kind of partnership that can produce results.”
