According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Inter paid a loan fee of €2 million, with the Italian side also covering part of his wages.
Furthermore, Inter also have the option to buy for €15 million, which will become mandatory if Akanji features in 50% of their matches and they win Serie A at the end of the season.
In a statement on their official website, the City wrote: "Manuel Akanji has joined Italian club Inter on a season-long loan deal, subject to international clearance."
The Citizens added: "He will now link up with Serie A side Inter under recently appointed boss Christian Chivu.
"Everyone at Manchester City wishes Manuel the best for the rest of the season"
Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Akanji has won every available trophy with the club, including a continental treble in the 2022/23 season.
