Ex-Zamalek coach throws weight behind Pyramids ahead of Downs clash

A Portuguese coach has weighed in on the upcoming CAF Champions League match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC, throwing his support behind the Egyptian side.

Masandawana and the North African team are set to square off against each other in the first leg of the Champions League final at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, May 24.

Miguel Cardoso's star-studded side beat 12-time Champions League winner Al Ahly in the semi-finals to set the historic final with Pyramids.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Premier League outfit brushed aside South African giants Orlando Pirates to qualify for their first-ever final in this competition.

Although he knows Sundowns stand a big chance to overcome Pyramids, a former Zamalek SC and Wydad AC coach Nelo Vingada has backed Pyramids to emerge victorious over the two legs.

"The Champions League is the biggest club competition on the continent, and the two teams that qualify for the final have an equal chance of 50/50," Vingada said according to Kooora.

"I hope Pyramids wins because they represent Egypt, and I wish them success in this great challenge."

The 30 June Stadium in Cairo will host the second leg on June 1. Sundowns will be seeking their second title, while Pyramids will be aiming to win their first trophy in the competition.
