Riveiro's 'negative assessment' pushes Ahly star to request exit

An Al Ahly star is reportedly seeking a move away from the club following the FIFA Club World Cup, with Jose Riveiro believed to be the reason behind the player's desire to leave.

Experienced winger Hussein El Shahat is said to be frustrated at Al Ahly due to a perceived lack of trust from newly appointed head coach Riveiro, who joined the club from Orlando Pirates last month.

According to Ahlynews.com, tensions began during the ongoing Club World Cup in the United States, where the Spanish tactician reportedly expressed doubts about El Shahat’s abilities following his performances in the tournament.

The Egyptian Premier League giants were eliminated from the competition after finishing bottom of Group A, which included Americas' Inter Miami FC Porto from Portugal, and Brazilian Palmeiras.

El Shahat featured in all three group-stage matches, coming off the bench against Inter Miami and Palmeiras, and starting against FC Porto before being substituted later in the game.

Despite his involvement in all three matches, the report suggests that Riveiro was unimpressed with El Shahat’s performances and has provided negative assessments of him.

Additionally, the recent signing of superstar Ahmed "Zizo" Sayed from arch-rivals Zamalek is also believed to have influenced El Shahat’s decision to explore options following the Club World Cup.

Amid these developments, it is reported that El Shahat is eyeing a move to the Gulf region, as he believes his role at the Red Devils may be significantly reduced next season.

Furthermore, Ahly’s management is reportedly expected to hold a meeting with Riveiro and the players to discuss the way forward following their early exit from the tournament.
