CAF respond to Bucs & Pyramids investigation reports

Following claims from North Africa that the Confederation of African Football has launched an investigation into the officiating of the Orlando Pirates vs Pyramids match, CAF has now addressed the speculation.

Pirates faced high-flying Pyramids at the FNB Stadium last Saturday in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Nonetheless, the visiting team netted two goals, but both were disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), one for an offside call involving Kaizer Chiefs-linked star Fiston Mayele, and the other for a handball by Sodiq Awujoola.

Additionally, there was chaos towards the end of the match, where the fourth official was seen issuing cards to the Egyptian Premier League leaders players, prompting Pyramids to feel aggrieved by the officiating.

Days after the match, a report from Khabrna.com has indicated that CAF has now initiated an investigation into the match, particularly concerning the referees led by Burundian official Pacifique Ndabeha Winmana.

Moreover, another Egyptian outlet, Tahiamasr.com, amongst various reports, has stated that CAF has taken significant action. It was also reported that the match officials could face consequences for disallowing the goals scored by Pyramids.

However, amid these assertions, CAF's Head of TV and Communications, Lux September, has denied the claims. September briefly informed KickOff that the reports are "Fiction", emphasizing that CAF has not initiated any investigation.

Pirates and Pyramids are set to meet in the second leg of the semi-finals at the 30 June Stadium on Friday, April 25. The winner of this tie will advance to the final against either Mamelodi Sundowns or Al Ahly.
