Ahly 'file urgent complaint' against Downs ahead of CAF CL clash

Al Ahly SC have reportedly decided to submit an urgent complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of their much-anticipated first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

In their preparations for the contest, a report from Ahlynews has indicated that the Egyptian giants have filed a complaint to CAF as a protest following the incident involving fans that took place during the recent Sundowns and Esperance de Tunis game.

Disturbing scenes broke out during the first leg of the quarterfinals matches as a physical altercation took place when Masandawana and Tunis supporters clashed with each other after the game.

The Egyptian publication reports that in a proactive step to prevent a recurrence of what transpired in Tshwane, Ahly are reported to have requested CAF to take action to avert any form of bad behavior happening in the buildup to their match.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the 12-time African champions are taking this step to avoid a repeat of what occurred previously during Pitso Mosimane's tenure when the coach and his players faced an alleged deliberate attack by Sundowns fans in 2022.

Mosimane faced verbal abuse from a section of Downs supporters who allegedly displayed placards mocking him and some members of his family in 2021 when he returned to Pretoria with Ahly for a quarter-final Champions League match.

The report has highlighted that Ahly officials will also convene a meeting with CAF to seek a guarantee that ensures the team's route from their residence to the stadium is completely secured, and to address any unsportsmanlike actions.

Ahly have already arrived in South Africa on Wednesday as they get ready for the showdown scheduled to take place at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday at 15h00.
