African giants 'decide' against signing Tau

A certain top African team has reportedly decided against signing Bafana Bafana vice-captain Percy Tau, following his departure from Qatar SC.

The South African forward recently became a free agent after parting ways with the Qatar Stars League side, just six months into his stint with the club.

During his brief stay, Tau made a notable impact, registering four assists in nine appearances and playing a key role in helping Qatar SC avoid relegation from the top tier.

Following his move from the Middle East, the 31-year-old attacker has been linked with several top African clubs, including Egyptian giants Zamalek and Pyramids FC.

Recently, reports have suggested that Tau was on the verge of joining Zamalek as a possible replacement for Ahmed "Zizo" Sayed, who recently made a move to Al Ahly, however, that deal has yet to materialize.

More recently, reports surfaced claiming that reigning CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC were interested in securing the Witbank-born star’s services.

Nonetheless, fresh updates from Egypt now indicate that Pyramids are not pursuing the former Mamelodi Sundowns winger, with sources confirming the club has not made any contact with the player.

"All the circulating news about the player's future being linked to Pyramids is incorrect," a source told Almasry Aloum.

"The reinforcements plan is going in a direction that differs from the character of the former Al Ahly player.

"The player's name was not even put forward, and the team is currently focused on renewing the contracts of key players on the team.

"We will also focus on signing high-caliber signings, given the team's participation in various local and continental competitions and tournaments."

As things stand, Tau remains a free agent, with other clubs including South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, reportedly monitoring his situation closely.
