Tau’s money terms in determining his next move

KickOff.com has established that Percy Tau’s demands will have to take a drop for him to earn a move on the continent.

Tau played his football for Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly for three-and-a-half years before the switch to Qatar SC in January.

Though the 31-year-old is now free, the terms of his personal package will be a huge factor in determining his next employer.

This website has gathered that Tau’s expectations to play in the Middle East countries again will be on an initial request of a USD1 million (approx. R17,7 million) per annum package.

It is unlikely he will get a deal on these terms.

There has been plenty speculation about possibly going back to Egypt to link up with Zamalek, while options in UAE and the Second Division in Saudi Arabia are also being pursued.

With Zamalek, Tau is not the first option and interest in him will only suffice if winger Ahmed Jafeli leaves on loan.

Should the Tunisian depart, then they will have three foreign spaces, which will cater for two wingers and a striker.

The White Knights have the Moroccan defensive pair of Bentayg Mahmoud and Moussadak Salah staying, while Tunisian defender Mathlouthi Hamza has left.

Jafeli is linked with a loan exit, just like fellow Tunisian striker Jaziri Seifeddine, which will then create three foreign spaces for Zamalek.

But all this is on hold and will depend on the arrival of a new coach with Ayman El Ramadi set to leave after completing his short-term contract having taken over from Jose Peseiro.

To play at home in South Africa, Tau will have to settle for a gross package of approximately half of what he has been on.

There will be need for him to play club football as soon as possible with the AFCON finals coming up from December 21, 2025 – January 18, 2026, in Morocco.

His handlers are considering all their options in pursuit of getting the 31-year-old the best deal and that will only happen with staying in the Gulf Region, where he has played since January.

Tau only scored thrice last season.
