Kaizer Chiefs confirm appointment of former Free State Stars coach Giovanni Solinas

Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaung today confirmed the much-anticipated appointment of a new coach via the club's official Facebook page.

Solinas had two spells at Ea Lla Koto – first, taking over from Ernst Middendorp in December 2015 before quitting in May 2016, citing "personal reasons" for his immediate resignation.

The Italian tactician guided the side to 12th on the Absa Premiership standings, while also leading them to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals in his six months during the 2015/16 season.

He later returned to the club in September 2016, replacing Denis Lavagne who was sacked after just three matches in charge, and departed once again in January 2017.

Solinas then went on to coach Saudi Arabian outfit Al Faisaly – for which Tendai Ndoro previously played – between February and June last year.

He now returns to South Africa 18 months later, ending speculation of who would replace the departed Steve Komphela at The Glamour Boys.

The former ES Setif coach was also previously linked to Orlando Pirates, upon his second departure from Stars last year, but the club opted instead for incumbent mentor Milutin Sredojevic.
