McCarthy's former assistant Ian Taylor recently left the club to take up a role at Chinese side Guangzhou.
According to a source close to City, McCarthy is excited to work with Jacobs.
“He [Jacobs] and Benni both share an immense passion for the game and they will work well together,” says the source.
Jacobs was a technical analyst before being promoted to Pirates' MDC team.
Meanwhile, new Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral wasted no time in poaching goalkeeper coach Calvin Marlin from the Citizens to serve as his assistant. The pair previously worked together at Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Marlin takes over from Boebie Solomons, who spent six months with the Urban Warriors.
