Swallows' Guardiola-inspired tactics outlined ahead of Chiefs

Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi explains says his side will stick to their Pep Guardiola-inspired tactic as Moroka Swallows welcome Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby.

The Dube Birds will be looking to build on what has been a brilliant start to their 23/24 season when they host neighbours Amakhosi at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

The home side are fifth in the DStv Premiership log with five wins from five matches, partly due to Steve Komphela's Manchester City-inspired style of play, according to Akpeyi.

"If you look around the structures that every team plays or most teams play in the world right now, this whole idea came from Pep Guardiola, I think, Akpeyi told journalists at the club's media day on Thursday.

"It's basically: we want to play from the back and we will commit [on it] day after day, session after session to make sure that we perfect it. Well, it's expected that hiccups are going happen,"

"We are on the field doing what we are instructed to do. So far, I think it has helped us because if you've been watching the games, you observed that most times when we start like that, we end up having a chance probably from the first minute or the second minute.

"So, we never stop, no matter how [hard] you try to press us, we still keep going.

"It's the confidence the coach has built in us. Working in the field and working outside are two different things.

"I think right from when coach Steve came in he made his intention clear, that this is the structure we are going to play. So it's the structure and again I think it's working for us."

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 15:30.
