Siwelele's early-season struggles continue

Siwelele FC have gone four games without a win in the Betway Premiership following a goalless draw against Richards Bay FC on Friday night.

The home team restored Ricardo Goss, Grant Margeman and Lyle Lakay after the loss to TS Galaxy, while Richards Bay named the match-winner against Chippa United, Gabadinho Mhango, on the bench.

Siwelele, who came into the match on a three-match losing run, were keen to make the breakthrough from a corner-kick early on but Thabo Makhele nodded wide.

With the lack of chances thereafter, Richards Bay threatened to take the lead on the half-hour mark through a first-time shot from the area by Thabani Zuke, but Goss was able to mak the save.

There were no big chaces that followed despite the intense forward momentum from both sides, as the first stanza finished goalless.

Both teams made changes at the resumption with Lindokuhle Zikhali coming on for the visitors by replacing Lindokule Mtshali, while Siwelele introduced Nyiko Mobbie for Siyabonga Ndebele.

There was pressure from Siwelele five minutes into the second half when a header by Ghampani Lungu forced Zuke to clear off the line.

Zuke was called into action again midway through the second period and produced another goal-line clearance to smother a shot from Lakay that seemed destined for the far corner.

It was the last involvement for Lakay, who was replaced by new signing Tebogo Potsane.

Richards Bay came alive thereafter as a fierce shot on the edge of the area by Lundi Mahala sailed inches over the top corner.

There were half chances at either end in the closing stages, but no winner emerged as Siwelele ended their three-match losing run but extended their winless run to four matches.
