'Yaya' for greener pastures, yay or nay?

With Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo Sithole's loan deal expiring at Gil Vicente next month, agent Manuel Tomas has discussed his future.

After an impressive Africa Cup of Nations campaign between January and February last year, where Sithole was one of the outstanding players who inspired Bafana to a bronze medal, he eventually secured a loan move to Primeira Liga outfit Gil Vicente.

He has been plying his trade in Portugal's Second Division for Tondela and was subject of intense speculation during the off-season, being linked with teams in the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A.

What was supposed to be a springboard campaign at Vicente actually became a nightmare after 'Yaya' sustained a broken leg injury on Bafana duty in October 2024, having made only two appearances for his new club.

The fractured shin-and-calf-bones injury kept him out since then, recently returning to training with the curtain already closing for the season. His side is left with one game for 2024/25.

KickOff.com spoke to the midfielder's agent, Tomas of Blueprivate Investments, on what the future holds for his client ahead of next term.

"He has a contract with Tondela. We never know the future, he has one more year with Tondela. I think Tondela will be in the first league, we thought about that. We'll see," Tomas revealed.

"But in football, you never know what will happen."

Tomas, however, was cagey when asked if he has received any offers for the Bafana international.

"I will not talk about this because he has a contract with Tondela. This is where we're focused. I don't want to talk about anything more."

Tondela currently top Liga Portugal 2 standings and need one point or third-placed Vizela to falter, to secure automatic promotion to the Primeira Liga ahead of their last game against Uniao de Leiria on Friday.
