Moment of truth for Durban City, goodbye Spurs?

Durban City FC will face their biggest test of the season when they go up against a desperate Cape Town Spurs, according to a coach with intimate knowledge of the lay of the land. 

Simo Dladla's men are one point away from being promoted to the lucrative Betway Premiership after a stellar 2024/25 campaign in the second tier.

They are on 55 points from 29 matches and will face Spurs on Sunday with the champagne on ice. 

For their part, the Urban Warriors in the lower end of the standings, at 15th, and so it is a six-pointer whichever way you look at it. 

"Durban City will definitely take it this weekend, says a confident Zeca Marques.

"The pressure has affected some of their players in the last two games. Given their current position, they will want to accumulate as many points as possible.

"However, it's not an easy match since they are playing against Spurs, who are fighting for survival. This game will test Durban City’s resilience and determine if they have what it takes to return to the PSL.

"Technically, they should win the league. They just need to continue doing what they have been doing all season - apply themselves, avoid taking things for granted, and not underestimate their opponents," adds the ex-Black Leopards coach.

Marques, however, warns the KZN-based side not to think it is going to be a walkover at Athlone Stadium.

"This is a situation where surprises can happen. They need to show us why they deserve to be champions, and it all comes down to having the right mindset.

"Orbit College has been a big surprise for me. There's a lot of buzz surrounding them, and they should be applauded. Well done to them."

Orbit, lying second, are expected to win their last game against already relegated Leruma United.
