Bongani Zungu's time at Amiens at an end

Bongani Zungu's time with French Ligue 2 side Amiens SC appears to be drawing to a close after club sporting director John Williams revealed that the Bafana Bafana star is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Williams was speaking in an interview with French publication Courrier Picard when he revealed that the Bafana Bafana star and his midfield partner Eddy Gnahoré were both likely to leave at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

"Zungu and Gnahoré are not expected to stay," the Englishman was quoted as saying over the weekend.

Amiens, who are 13th in the Ligue 2 standings, are set to bring a disappointing season to a close away to Auxerre on Saturday evening but Zungu may well have already played his last match for the beleaguered second division side.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star missed the club's most recent fixture against Paris FC with a reported ankle injury and no confirmation has been provided as to whether or not he has returned to the squad ahead of the upcoming tie.

Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have all been credited with an interest in his services in the past, although the 29-year-old recently hinted that his desire was to remain in Europe, and perhaps even in France.

Zungu joined Amiens from Portuguese club Vitória Guimarães in 2017 and has made 75 appearances for the club, either side of a loan spell with Scottish giants Rangers where he was part of the squad which won the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership title.
