South Africa captain Tercious Malepe has been named alongside the likes of Dani Alves in an Olympics "Team of the Round" following his strong showing against hosts Japan.
Malepe was one of the star performers during South Africa's opening match at the 2020 Olympic Games against Japan, during which he effected four clearances, three interceptions and two successful challenges, according to sports data company, SofaScore.
Playing as a left-sided centre-back, he was ultimately unable to prevent his country from succumbing to a narrow 1-0 defeat against the host nation in Tokyo but saw his performance earn him a sport in SofaScore's Team of the Round for Round 1 at the Olympics.
His strong showing at the Ajinomoto Stadium earned him a performance rating of 7.5 for the match, which saw him take his place in a back-four alongside Australia's Joel King, New Zealand's Winston Reid and Brazil legend Dani Alves.
Alves' teammates Bruno Guimarães and Richarlison, the latter of whom scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Germany to be named Player of the Round, also made the cut, while Die Mannschaft's Florian Muller features in goal despite his country's heavy loss.
Elsewhere, Uriel Antuna and Alexis Vega feature alongside Richarlison following Mexico's surprise 4-1 win over France, who will meet South Africa on Sunday, while French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac completed the line-up after a strong display in his side's losing cause.
