Tau, 26, who's struggled for game time since his return to Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion showed no signs of rustiness after producing a goal-scoring Man of the Match display against Ghana.
His second-half equaliser in their 1-1 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at FNB Stadium on Thursday evening moved him to 13 goals in his 30th appearance for the senior national team since making his debut in March 2017.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star is now level with Zuma in the top 10 scorers list but achieved the feat in 37 fewer caps than the Bafana legend.
His goal on the evening also moved him in contention for the AFCON qualifiers golden boot as he moved to four goals in five games and level with Nigeria sensation Victor Osimhen.
Tau will now be aiming to lead Bafana to success when they face Sudan in Khartoum on Sunday as they need to avoid defeat in order to secure their place at Cameroon 2021.
