The Black Stars currently sit one point behind log leaders South Africa in Group G standings and will face Bafana Bafana in a potential decider on Sunday.
However, Milovan Rajevac's charges will first have to overcome the challenge of Ethiopia on Thursday afternoon in a clash that will see Ghana take to the field without the help of influential midfielder Thomas Partey.
The Arsenal star was ruled out for his club side's Premier League clash with the groin injury over the weekend and hasn't recovered in time to regain his fitness for the match against the East African nation.
According to the Evening Standard, Partey, who was called up by Ghana for the upcoming qualifiers, has remained in London in order to undergo further assessments in an attempt to avoid aggravating his injury any further.
The report adds that a final decision is yet to be made on whether or not the 28-year-old will be allowed to travel to Ghana in order to be able to feature against South Africa.
