Alex Heredia explains Itumeleng Khune selection for Bafana Bafana

National team head coach Molefi Ntseki surprised a lot of people last week when he included the off-form Khune in his squad set to play in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.

The under-fire goalkeeper has become the subject of criticism recently following a string of poor results by the Naturena-based club, with many questioning why he still makes the national team squad.

Top goalkeeper coach and SAFA instructor Alex Heredia backs Khune and says he understands the reason Ntseki selected the Amakhosi veteran.

"Look I don't know, I think it's coming from a different angle of the situation," Heredia tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I don't know why Molefi Mtseki didn't call the other Kaizer Chiefs players, but if you are talking about Khune, I think what he's trying to do is to create a lot of balance.

"I don't think Molefi wants to use Khune in any of the two games, but Khune gives you a lot of input, he's very experienced and it will be very positive for the squad.

"Khune isn't top at the moment, but is he the best Kaizer Chiefs player at the moment? I don't think so. Tell me which one is the best player at Kaizer Chiefs at the moment? It's a really, really unstable situation.

"I think all the departments in the team are collapsing. But Kaizer Chiefs is a big institution, so I don't think they are going to be like this for long. But to answer your question, no I don't think Ntseki called Khune because he is the best player at Kaizer Chiefs."
