SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza does not pay attention to fans who talk about him on social media

He's been criticised for most parts of his career by fans, but Thamsanqa Gabuza holds no grudges for the many times he has been ridiculed on social media or by fans at the stadium.

Now in the colours of SuperSport United, the big striker is having the time of his life, scoring goals while forming a deadly partnership with the Absa Premiership Player of the Month for August, Bradley Grobler.

He's feeling the love and, more importantly, trust his teammates and coach have in him, and he's working so hard at training to ensure he repays the faith that is shown in him.

The former Golden Arrows forward has put his time at Orlando Pirates behind him and is focused on adding to the four goals he has scored for Matsatsantsa so far. He is not the type to keep up with what's been said about him on social media, but he knows how fickle football supporters can be.

"I don't go on social media. You always hear people on the streets and wherever I go. People love football and as long as you do what they know you're good at, they will obviously be disappointed [if you are not doing well]. If you do well and score goals, they will tell you that you are doing well. This is football and you have to understand," Gabuza says.

"Since Golden Arrows, I am used to this. It's not new. People leave their families and go to the stadiums to enjoy football and if you don't give them what they want, then obviously they will get angry. Some go to the stadiums to relieve stress and be happy, so you have to deliver the way they expect."

Trust means a lot to Gabuza and you can see in the way that he is playing that he is thriving under the guidance of a coach who believes in his ability.

"When your teammates and your coach trusts you, then things happen. It's hard work, that's all. I'm happy and most of the guys we know each other from the national team, so I was able to settle. It starts at training where we are able to build the trust," Gabuza says.

Gabuza will be in action tonight when SuperSport take on Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 second leg semi-final.

Highlands Park are in the final after beating Polokwane City on penalties last night.
