SuperSport United respond to club sale reports amid Multichoice PSL sponsorship deal

SuperSport United have denied the club will be sold ahead of MultiChoice's sponsorship of the South African top-flight starting with the 2020/21 season.

Formed 26 years ago, Matsatsantsa is wholly owned by SuperSport, the South African sports broadcasting company that falls under the DStv network and thus MultiChoice.

A firm part of modern Premier Soccer League history with 14 major titles, including three Premiership crowns, it has been speculated that Matsatsansa could be sold due to a conflict of interest with the new League sponsorship agreement.

However, the Tshwane giants have dismissed the claims in an official statement released to the media on Wednesday evening.

"SuperSport United has been made aware of the rumours and speculation regarding the potential sale of the club. These are untrue. SuperSport United can categorically state that there have been no such approaches and, more importantly, the club is not up for sale," the statement read.
