South African official Akhona Makalima has been selected to referee at this year's Women's World Cup to be hosted in Australia New Zealand in July.
At the recent FIFA Men's World Cup, Vicor Gomes took centre stage when he ran with the whistle in two games and ultimately returned home a millionaire before announcing his retirement.

Gomes was in Qatar with assistant referee Zakhele Siwela.
For the seventh edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN finals) starting this week in Algeria, Abongile Tom will carry the task of representing the nation.
Tom has already done AFCON qualifiers, COSAFA Cup matches, CAF Champions League, and Confederation Cup matches through doing duty on the domestic scene in the DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The latest appointment for South African officials has been bestowed on Akhona Makalima for the FIFA Women's World Cup to be played in Australia and New Zealand later this year.

Makalima has been named amongst 33 referees, 55 assistant referees, and 19 video match officials for the tournament who will participate in preparatory seminars in Qatar and Uruguay.
According to FIFA, all the selected officials have been selected based on the officials' quality and performances delivered at FIFA tournaments and other international and domestic competitions in recent years.
Unlike in Qatar, South Africa will be represented in Australia and New Zealand.
Banyana is in Group G and plays Sweden (July 23) at the Wellington Regional Stadium, and Argentina (July 38) at the Dunedin Stadium before closing off the group against Italy (August 2) at the Wellington Stadium.
This year's tournament will run from July 20 – August 20 and will be the first to be hosted by countries from different Confederations while being the first FIFA Women's World Cup featuring 32 countries.
