JUST IN: Once, twice, three times a winner for Downs duo

The mood in the Mamelodi Sundowns camp will be sky-high ahead of the CAF Champions League decider on Sunday after two big PSL monthly awards were handed to the Tshwane giants yet again.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced on Friday morning that Lucas Ribeiro Costa has walked away with the Player of the Month award, plus the Goal of the Month accolade for the same period.

Meanwhile, head coach Miguel Cardoso has scooped Coach of the Month.

If there were question marks on Ribeiro's credentials for the PSL Footballer of the Season award, the Brazilian cleared it up in the last month of the league season with three goals to his name, helping Masandawana wrap up an eighth consecutive league title.

Ribeiro's goals also helped him fend off competition from teammates Macello Allende and Iqraam Ryaners, who were also strong contenders for the Player of the Month award.

One of those goals, a neatly hit strike against Magesi, was also voted the Goal of the Month for May, adding the icing on the cake for the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Cardoso's win for the Coach of the Month award was well earned through five league wins in the month of May to secure his first league title on South African shores.

To clinch the award, Cardoso edged out Richards Bay coach Ronnie Gabriel and former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro.
