With Angolan international Gilberto Miguel having failed to make an impression at Orlando Pirates during the first half of the season, things ultimately don’t look so bad for the winger following his latest achievement while out on loan. Here’s a look!
The story
Gilberto arrived in South Africa at the start of the 2024/25 season from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.
After joining the Buccaneers for a sizeable fee, the tricky winger failed to establish himself in the team, as then-manager Jose Riveiro showed limited belief in the player.

As a result, the 24-year-old made a swift return to Petro in January 2025 on loan for the remainder of the season.
Since then, the Luanda-born star has redeemed himself, earning a call-up to the Angola national team during the March international break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Even more impressively, Gilberto has now clinched yet another Girabola league title with Petro.
Petro have now won the Angolan league title four times in a row, with Gilberto signalling the number four during title celebrations.
Unsurprisingly, Gilberto looked eager to show off some of his trademark dance moves, which he has become well known for.
It remains unclear whether his future at Pirates is secure, especially considering he will return to the Buccaneers with a clean slate under a new manager.
Pirates have already announced the departures of Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm this week.
