Percy Tau's Union Saint-Gilloise coach reflects on his Player of the Season crowning

Royal Union Saint-Gilloise coach Luka Elsna has opened up on the award picked up by Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau earlier this week.

Tau was on Monday crowned the Belgium second division Player of the Year after a fine season that saw him run away in the voting polls with a massive 228 votes compared to second and third ranked Nikola Storm (89) and his Union teammate Faiz Selemani (84).

The 24-year-old scored 11 goals and managed 13 assists in their regular league season and was arguably spearheading the club's charge for promotion to the first division – a goal which they ultimately missed out on by six and nine points in the respective two rounds.

But as they look to finish off the Europa League play-offs with three games remaining, Elsna has lauded the contribution and recognition of Tau and Selemani is shared by the entire team, hoping that it would inspire a strong finish to the campaign.

"The crowning of Percy is therefore also that of the group [squad], and it is naturally necessary to insist on it," said Elsna on the club's official website.

"This season we had a good base and we managed to manage the integration of new members from various backgrounds.

"Let's finish the season in style and in communion with our supporters, who, last Saturday at the Circle, again demonstrated that they were there [behind us]!"

Though Union are just two points off Europe League preliminary round qualification, it has already been confirmed that the club is ineligible to participate in the second tear European continental championships.
