The two sides clashed in an eagerly-anticipated top-of-the-table battle at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex in KwaZulu-Natal, with home side Thanda taking the lead 15 minutes in thanks to perennial goalscorer Mhlengi Cele who netted his 16th of the season.
Leopards struck back seven minutes before the break thanks to Djunga Munganga, and with neither side able to unlock the opposing defences again in the second half, both clubs settled for a point, as Amabhubesi maintained their nine-point lead at the summit of the standings.
Stellenbosch FC’s bid for Absa Premiership promotion via the play-offs took a knock as they were beaten 2-1 by Mbombela United, Tshidiso Patjie and Inky Masuku on target for the hosts to deny the Cape side maximum points. Stellenbosch remain third, and are still a point above fourth-placed Royal Eagles who suffered a 3-1 loss at home to AmaZulu.
The woes for bottom-placed Santos continued as they were beaten 2-0 by University of Pretoria, with 15th–placed Magesi putting further daylight between themselves and the People’s Team following a 2-0 win over Jomo Cosmos.
