Manchester United's Wayne Rooney desperate to win first-ever FA Cup

Despite being at the club for 11 years, winning five Premier League titles and a Champions League winners’ medal, the England international is yet to win the world’s oldest football tournament, and hopes to add the FA Cup to his glittering trophy cabinet this year.

"We have an FA Cup quarterfinal against Arsenal on Monday and that is massive for us," Rooney told United's official website. "We haven't been to a final for a few years, we want to try to win that game and we are looking forward to that.”

Rooney, who watched boyhood club Everton lift the trophy 20 years ago, hopes he can emulate his childhood heroes this season.

"Of course, I think it is a massive trophy,” he said. “It is a trophy that, growing up as a youngster, I used to love watching and I was fortunate enough to see Everton lift the FA Cup in 1995 when I was nine years old.

“It is something which I would love to do and hopefully it can be this year."

Kick-off for Monday’s quarter-final clash against the Gunners is set for 21:45.
