Lyle Foster lists lessons learnt at Orlando Pirates before AS Monaco move

Currently on the books of AS Monaco, South African striker Lyle Foster has opened up about his experiences at Orlando Pirates and how he grew from a kid to a professional.

Having come through Pirates' youth structures from the age of 12, Foster rose to prominence when he became the club's youngest PSL debutant in its history back in 2017.

The 19-year-old made his professional debut against Maritzburg United at the age of 17 years and 12 days, before later moving to Monaco upon his 18th birthday.

The Noordgesig-born junior national team star has since reflected on his maturity at The Buccaneers, outlining what sort of changes he underwent and what is required from young players who wish to follow in his footsteps.

"My footballing journey has been incredible. Before I joined Pirates as a kid back in 2012, I had only really played street football," Foster said.

"I learned lots in the development structures, and it really helped me develop my talent. And then suddenly I was rubbing shoulders with the people I had always looked up to – it was crazy.

"There's no doubt that football changes people's lives. One of the first things you learn is discipline: you have to be on time, at different places.

"You learn not to be selfish: it's a team sport. You learn how to get on with different people and make friends that last for life."
