Grant Margeman looking to get back into shape ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns switch

New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Grant Magerman has revealed how he is planning to get himself into top shape after gaining weight during lockdown.

The talented 23-year-old midfielder will be playing in the top-flight next season after signing with the Absa Premiership champions.

Margeman, who has also represented South Africa at the under-17 and under-20 World Cups, says he will have to put in extra work to be in shape for the new season.

"That's something with weight you know, you can pick it up easily and also lose it easily," Margeman tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"So for me uhmm... if I'm overweight you know it's something I have to work on and lose it immediately, by putting in extra hours you know. Working hard. As for me it's not stopping me from doing anything but also it's not good to be always like overweight.

"You know us footballers you have to always be in good shape, you have to look after your body. But as for me, I was feeling good in the past games you know. The only thing that was maybe bugging me was the injury that I picked up before we came into the bubble. With my ankle you know.

"It was a bit of a disappointment but even though I wasn't 100 percent healed I still played almost my normal game. It wasn't my best but hopefully my ankle can heal by the time I join Sundowns and I'll be back to my full best."

After competing in the promotion playoffs with Ajax recently, Margeman is excited that he will be joining his new teammates at Chloorkop later this week.

"I will be leaving at the end of the week, Ajax Cape Town communicated with coach Pitso [Mosimane], so he said it's fine he understands I've been long in the bubble with Ajax Cape Town," he adds.

"I'm excited you know to be joining such an amazing club, the best club in the country. But I'm also nervous you know because it's gonna be my first time I'm leaving for another club. I'm leaving my home, leaving the Mother City. So ja, I'm quite nervous as well."
