France coach Deschamps signs new France contract

Deschamps's previous deal was expiring after Euro 2016, having succeeded Larent Blanc in the hotseat in July 2012.

The 46-year-old steered Les Bleus to the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup, where they lost to eventual champions Germany.

"Didier Deschamps has extended his contract until after the next World Cup in 2018," a statement on the French Football Federation's website reads.

"At president Noel Le Graet's initiative, the FFF's executive committee has decided to extend Deschamps' contract as national team coach until after the 2018 World Cup.

"The coach will be accompanied by his assistants Guy Stephan and Franck Raviot to carry out his mission until the next World Cup."

The ex-defensive midfielder, who captained France to World Cup honours in 1998, has also coached Monaco, Juventus and Olympique de Marseille.
