Kamwendo has founded the Joseph Kamwendo Soccer Academy in Malawi with the main objective to unearth talent in his home country and set opportunities for the youngsters to get contracts with clubs at a professional level.
'Shakira ' who has since retired from playing football, says the project is all about giving back to the community.
"Life is fine at the moment, I can't complain. I am here at home in Malawi and started my soccer academy ".
"This part of my social responsibility is to give back to the community."
"I believe there is a lot of talent in Malawi. We want to use the academy to unearth and expose the talent we have in the country ", Kamwendo tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"At the moment I am working with partners but we will always welcome any form of assistance be it financially and otherwise.
"It's always difficult to run such projects from your own pocket ".
"But under the circumstances we working hard to make sure that we see more players from Malawi playing in big leagues in Africa and Europe ", he added.
Kamwendo confessed to being still at Buccaneer at heart after enjoyed his career at Orlando Pirates.
"Look I also played for one of the big teams in Africa TP Mazembe but Pirates is close to my heart.
They gave me the biggest opportunity in life to play football outside the country. There is nothing bigger than that in my football career".
"I want to thank the chairman of the club Dr Irvin Khoza for giving me an opportunity of playing for one of the big clubs in the continent, Orlando Pirates and the fans for their best treatment in South Africa ".
"As they always say 'Once a Pirate always a Pirates, I still love and support them", added Kamwendo.
