Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Toni Silva wins Kazakhstan Premier League with Tobol

Silva parted ways with Sundowns in 2019 following an inauspicious and acrimonious spell with the club and spent the next 18 months across stints in Egypt with Al Ittihad and Romania with Astra.

The Guinea-Bissau international struggled for form, however, and eventually departed for Kazakhstani side Taraz in 2020, where his performances earned him a move to Tobol ahead of the current campaign.

With the club having qualified for the UEFA Europa League last season, Silva and his teammates went one step further this time around and were officially being crowned league champions last month.

Silva featured in 24 of Tobol's 26 league matches, scoring once, as the team pipped nearest rivals Astana to the league title by four points, losing just one match throughout the campaign.

That triumph saw the club win only its second-ever league crown, and the former Chelsea and Liverpool academy star could add to his silverware in the coming weeks in the Kazakhstan Cup where Tobol have been drawn against Shakhter Karagandy.
