Farouk Khan, Khanye mourn Lucky Maselesele

Khan, a former coach worked with Maselesele during their shared time at Kaizer Chiefs while Khanye featured alongside him at Maritzburg United.

"It is very sad to lose someone at such a young age at just 41. He was such an icon. This guy was supposed to be giving back to the community of Alexandra. Even those who didn't believe in Alexandra, by looking at Lucky they should have seen it's possible to make it in football.

"Lucky went on to play for one of the best teams in South Africa when Chiefs won Coca Cola 5-0 he was a member of that team. When I joined Kaizer Chiefs development squad he was being promoted to the senior side, and when I got to the senior side he again left. But we played together at Maritzburg United under Gordon Igesund.

"We just clicked, we were always reminiscing about the past. He was a very good player who could use both feet. The municipality of Alexandra should have used him to give back, and employ him to run sport over there.

"He was so dynamic I'm very surprised he couldn't reach his best. Also to why he couldn't reach his full potential. But he did show some glimpses."

Khan added that he will never forget Maselesele's unbelievable pace and eye for goal.

"We called him Romario," Khan remembers.

"Sad news indeed. I fondly remember the first time I met him as a 15-year-old defender in Alex, who I converted to a striker.

"He always had a smile on his face with a good sense of humour and was extremely coachable. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace."
