DStv Premiership match report SuperSport United v Swallows FC 06 May 2022

SuperSport United missed the chance to cement their spot in the top eight following a 2-2 draw against Swallows FC on Friday evening.

Matsatsantsa brought Kegan Johannes, Keenan Phillips and Sifiso Ngobeni back from their goalless draw against Stellenbosch FC, whereas Swallows recalled Lebohang Mokoena and Ruzaigh Gamildien.

Johannes made his presence felt on eight minutes when he stuck out a leg in the area and volleyed in a loose clearance by Wandile Letlabika following a free-kick.

SuperSport should've gone and doubled their lead minutes later after a low ball into space found with Thamsanqa Gabuza, who ran clear and struck the foot of the post.

This eventful start woke the Dube Birds up and had Dillon Solomons drop in right of the area soon thereafter and strike the side-netting before Monnapule Saleng's galloping header hit the top of target.

Swallows approach to pull a comeback were interrupted seven minutes to halftime after a hamstring pull forced veteran Musa Nyatama to be substituted for Givemore Khupe.

The host looked to add onto their tally and showed a double change ahead of the second half in which Iqraam Rayners replaced Ngobeni and Thalente Mbatha came on for Johannes.

Matsatsantsa's intentions were set aside nine minutes from the break as the Dube Birds levelled through a powerful finish from Gamildien.

SuperSport were back ahead midway in the second half after Jamie Webber's cross-field pass set Ghampani Lungu clear down the right where the Zambian delivered a low cross for Rayners to tap in.

Matsatsantsa were pinned in their own half in the latter stages with Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on following a return from injury and Gabuza withdrawn.

The Dube Birds got their rewards in added time when Kagiso Malinga drew a foul in the area and won a penalty, which Solomons tucked away to give his side a crucial point in their relegation fight.
