Coaching changes looming at Durban City after return?

With Durban City's automatic promotion finally confirmed, scrutiny has shifted on whether head coach Simo Dladla will remain in the post ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Teams promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the elite league always have a dilemma on whether to shuffle or beef up their technical team, with demands high in the top division.

Dladla has been with City for some time, initially being assistant to Zipho Dlangalala from July 2023, following their relegation from the Premiership.

He was then handed the reigns in December of the same year after Dlangalala was relieved of his duties, going on to lead the side to a fourth-place finish, 11 points behind champions Magesi FC.

With a full season in charge, Dladla has masterminded the Durban-based side's promotion.

However, it appears it is not cast in stone that the ex-Uthongathi coach will be calling the shots on the bench ahead of the new campaign.

City Chairman Farouk Kadodia could not be drawn into any confirmation.

"I'm still to do a review and will negotiate with him what's the best way forward," Kadodia responded to KickOff.com when queried.

With at least a full month remaining before the Betway Premiership kicks off, Kadodia revealed the management still have to do a review before making decisions.

"He's the preferred coach for the moment. I don't want to talk too much until I do a review."

Whilst still going by the name Maritzburg United, the club had the tendency to hire experienced coaches in the PSL, with the likes of Ernst Middendorp (four spells), Eric Tinkler, Muhsin Ertugral, the late Clive Barker, Roger De Sa and Steve Komphela among the veteran mentors to be in charge.

They, however, have also given young tactician Fadlu Davids, who has went on to coach at Orlando Pirates, Raja Casablanca and currently at Simba, his big break.
