Clayton Daniels: I wish Gaston Sirino was my teammate

The Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker has been suspended for two matches with a fine of R75 000 (R25 000 suspended for 24 months) for striking Daniels and his former SuperSport teammate Dean Furman in the MTN8 semi-finals last year.

Daniels called Sirino a "small boy" at the time as Matsatsantsa prevailed and went on to win the MTN trophy.

"Well I don't want to talk about that [Sirino's sanction], the PSL made a final decision, all I want is for him to learn from his mistakes," Daniels tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"He is great player. He had a good season. Somehow I wish he was in my team because he has a very fantastic football brain. He is very effective, plays to score goals, create goals, working hard off the ball."

Daniels believes his 'attacker' will surely be in the running for the 2019/20 Absa Premiership Footballer of the Season award.

"Definitely in the top five best performers of the season in my book, but he has stiff competition," the no-nonsense centre-back adds.

Asked if the short-tempered Sundowns star would get his vote in the Players' Player of the Season category considering their past issues, the Capetonian indicated that it's water under the bridge.

"Yeah definitely, I'm still looking for him to go for a coffee [laughs]! Maybe I can take him to where I grew up and show him around, [to show him] that I know life is hard out there."

Asked if by that he meant he wanted to prove to Sirino he was not a sissy, Daniels laughed: "Well I don't think I have to answer that! Over the years I'm sure everyone knows what it's like to play against me."
