10-man Chippa denied back-to-backs at Sekhukhune

Sekhukhune United's winning start came to an end after a 1-1 draw against ten-man Chippa United on Wednesday evening.

Sekhukhune new signing Sipho Mbule was not yet in the matchday squad, as head coach Lehlohonolo Seema made only one change from their opening win against Magesi, with Linda Mntambo taking the place of Chibuike Ohizu.

Meanwhile, Chippa new talisman Andile Jali did not recover in time from the injury he picked up in their win over Richards Bay, as he was replaced by Orlando Pirates loanee Siphelo Baloni in the line-up.

The game was open in the early exchanges and the Chilli Boys went ahead within the first seven minutes thanks to a header by Bienvenu Eva Nga from a rebound in the box.

Babina Noko were fired up and after 20 minutes, Keletso Makgalwa almost levelled matters with a strike in the box that narrowly missed wide.

Seema's men gained momentum as ten minutes before the interval Makgalwa came close again with a strike that was smothered by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

However, Kwanele Kopo's men were disciplined towards the end of the first stanza, as they kept Sekhukhune at bay and went to the break with a narrow lead.

However, Babina Noko's fortunes improved four minutes into the second stanza after Thabang Monare levelled matters with a close-range header from a cross by Makgalwa.

As the game went on, Chippa were reduced to ten men just before the hour-mark after Sergio Kammies received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Sekhukhune started to threaten more going forward with a numerical advantage, as seven minutes later Andy Boyeli almost made it 2-1 with a close-range header from a cross by Makgalwa.

Babina Noko were desperate for the winner with 20 minutes remaining as they made an attacking and tactical change with Chibuike Ohizu coming on for Mntambo.

The Limpopo outfit continued to have more possession in the opposition's half and with six minutes to go, Boyeli came close to giving them the winner with a strike that was smothered by Nwabali.

Chippa were happy to absorb the pressure in the dying minutes and frustrated Babina Noko to the share of the spoils.
