Grobler returns as SuperSport hold Chippa

SuperSport United extended their unbeaten run to three matches in the Betway Premiership after a goalless draw against Chippa United on Tuesday evening.

The Tshwane outfit were able to recall on striker Bradley Grobler for his first appearance since getting injured against Orlando Pirates in the team's first game of the season.

The Chilli Boys came into clash unbeaten against SuperSport in their last eight matches, a record which dates back to the 2019/2020 Premiership season.

The game was played at a cagey pace in the early stages, with neither side really showing any great attacking intent as clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the 18-yard area.

Chippa had the first real glance at goal, albeit from an effort from distance, as defender Seun Ndlovu unlashed a first-time strike from distance that sailed just wide of Thakasani Mbanjwa's upright.

The visitors went even closer just before the halftime break as Sinoxolo Kwayiba nearly got his first goal of the campaign after his low shot crashed against the upright.

Gavin Hunt's charges came out with a bit intent in the second period and were nearly reward five minutes in, with Lyle Lakay seeing his powerful effort brilliantly turned away by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Hunt opted to re-shuffle the pack for the final 20 minutes as Tashreeq Morris and Brooklyn Poggenpoel made way for  Terrence Dzvukamanja and  Eric Mbangossoum as they went in search of the breakthrough.
