Promotion playoffs | Bartlett dismisses 'underdog' tag as CT Spurs aim for promotion upset

Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett insists his side will be aiming to make their home ground advantage count when hosting the favoured Maritzburg United in a PSL promotion playoff at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Fadlu Davids' Maritzburg side are heavily favoured to maintain their DStv Premiership status via the playoffs.

Bartlett though has dismissed their underdogs tag heading into Saturday's clash as both teams boast a win each over Casric Stars in their first fixture.

"It's a massive game for us against Maritzburg, we had a very good season in the Championship, and I think for us we have to regroup. We did really well against Casric away. I think a lot of people didn't expect us to get the result," Bartlett told KickOff.

"Both of us having won the first game, it feels like a cup final because I think whoever wins the game will go top of the log and for us it has been important. Our home form has been unbelievable and has put us in this position.

"We are going to continue with the confidence of knowing that we have the fans behind us as our our 12th man. When things don't go well, they are always there to push the players further on and motivate them.

Players also know what at this moment in time, what is at stake. We are not underestimating Maritzburg United, we do respect them as a Premiership team but I don't think we're going in there as underdogs.Shaun Bartlett

"We should go in there as favorites, being a home game and I think we will try form the beginning to put pressure on our opponents as far as energy and try and get a couple of goals.

"The foundation for us at home has been clean sheets and we've got to try and maintain that if we want to have any chance in these games.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
