Absa Premiership match report Orlando Pirates v Polokwane City 11 May 2019
Orlando Pirates ended their campaign with a 3-0 win over Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership on Saturday. Pirates re-called Augustine Mulenga to the attack, while City started with Lehlohonolo Phali, Simphiwe Hlongwane, Salulani Phiri, Wiseman Maluleke, Monde Mphambaniso and Mbulelo Wagaba. The Buccaneers made ttheir intensions clear early on and grabbed the lead on six minutes after Thembinkosi Lorch beat the offside trap to slot past Phali. City tried pushing for an equaliser, but the Sea Robbers went on to grab a second goal on 20 minutes after Vincent Pule's sent a superb volley into the top corner from around 30-yards out. Phali was handed his first start in the Absa Premiership, but he was singlehandedly keeping Rise and Shine in the game with a number of fine saves in the opening stanza. However, Bucs managed bag a third goal five minutes before the break after Lorch combined with Mulenga to finish beyond the advancing Phali. The Rise and Shine made a change at the break, as Bongile Booi came on for Anas as the first alteration of the afternoon. Unlike the first half, the Soweto giants struggled to link-up in attack with the visitors showing more resolve in attack. City's first shot on target came after 63 minutes through a low curler from Jabulani Maluleke, as the visitors started enjoying more of the ball. The Sea Robbers kept pushing for more goals as the half went by, as Lorch missed a great chance to a hat-trick late on with a straight shot at Phali. Pirates managed to run out 3-0 winners on the day, but Mamelodi Sundowns' 1-0 victory Free State Stars meant the league title remained in Pretoria.
