Absa Premiership match report Golden Arrows v Baroka 10 November 2018

Arrows missed an opportunity for an early lead with a header from Lerato Lamola inside the box bundled away by Elvis Chipezeze following up on Siboniso Conco’s earlier effort.

A free-kick from Nkanyiso Cele fell perfectly to Lamola who made no mistake to direct his header past Chipezeze after 11 minutes.

Abafana Besthende secured another clear opportunity after Nkanyiso Mngwengwe’s deflected shot was set for the top corner but a deflection from a defender kept it away at the midway point.

The hosts searched for a second and nearly scored in similar fashion to the first with a free-kick from Cele sailing narrowly wide.

Baroka found the equaliser on 34 minutes when Jemondre Dickens after finding spaces in the defence to beat Nkosingiphile Gumede with a low finish.

As expected, Arrows launched a number of attacks to get back into things but were unable to find it and headed to halftime level-pegging.

Bakgaga took the lead for the first time in the game when Vusi Sibiya rose to meet a free-kick to head past Gumede two minutes into the second half.

Arrows threatened an immediate reply but Conco wasn’t able to get the better of Chipezeze with a poor shot.

There was another slim opening for them, but again poor execution this time on the path of Sibusiso Sibeko became their undoing.

A double substitution took place for them shortly with Knox Mutizwa and Danny Venter coming in all-out attacking alterations.

After pressing for the equaliser, Arrows were denied by strong defending coupled with poor attacking displays on their side.

A late header two minutes before optional time was the closest to drawing level but Wayde Jooste couldn’t get the attempt on target as it skied over the top instead.

It’s a much-needed victory for the Limpopo side who secure their second win of the season since August.
